Privacy Notice
What information this site may receive, how records submissions are handled, and how Google Analytics and hosting services are used.
Records transparency does not require unnecessary exposure of private information. We aim to publish records relevant to government operations while limiting the republication of unrelated personal details.

Information submitted through the contact form
The site's Netlify-powered contact form includes a submission category, optional name, optional email, written details, and—depending on the category—optional agency, date, and related URL fields. The details field is required. The current form does not include a file-upload field. If you submit information, Netlify may receive and store the fields you send.
Please do not send passwords, account numbers, medical records, identification documents, private contact information, or similar sensitive information unless absolutely necessary and appropriate. Information sent through the form is not automatically published.
How submissions may be used
We may use a submission to assess a proposed source, check provenance, investigate an error, request clarification, respond if contact information was supplied, prepare a public-records request, or decide whether a verified record or summary belongs in the archive.
When correspondence becomes relevant to publication, we generally favor structured summaries and appropriate attachments over publishing personal email chains verbatim. We review unrelated addresses, personal signatures, identification numbers, and other sensitive material before publication.
Google Analytics 4
The site includes the Google Analytics 4 tag for its separate Calaveras measurement ID, G-FY0XBPEKPW. It is used to understand visits and improve navigation and content. Depending on browser settings and Google Analytics configuration, Google may process page-view and interaction data, session statistics, approximate location, device/browser information, and pseudonymous identifiers.
Google Analytics may use first-party cookies such as _ga to distinguish visits and sessions. The project does not need a visitor to provide a name or email address to browse the site. We have not added a Google Ads tag or advertising code in this site bundle; settings within Google's services are managed separately from the website code.
To learn more about Google's data processing, see Google's Privacy Policy and Google's GA4 cookie documentation. Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on may be available for your browser; browser privacy tools may also restrict tracking.
Website hosting and technical information
The website is hosted on Netlify; larger public source records may be served from Cloudflare R2 after that records service is configured. These providers may process ordinary technical requests, IP addresses, request headers, and security or performance information when operating their services. Their practices are subject to their own policies: Netlify Privacy Policy and Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
Browser preferences and local storage
The website saves a light/dark theme preference in browser localStorage under the key archive-theme. This lets the display choice persist between visits; it is not a user account. The site does not currently offer user accounts or a newsletter signup.
How long information may be kept
Submissions and correspondence may be retained for as long as reasonably needed to review a record, preserve provenance, respond to concerns, document corrections, or meet operational and legal requirements. There is no fixed deletion period promised by this notice. Material not needed for an archival or other legitimate purpose may be removed.
External links and publication risks
Linked agencies and third-party sites have their own data practices. The project may publish official documents containing identifiable information that relates to public business; being legally releasable does not mean every personal detail needs further amplification. The Redactions policy explains the distinction between an agency-redacted source and a project-created privacy edit.
Privacy questions, corrections, and deletion requests
Use the Contact form to ask how a submission is handled, request correction of personal information, or identify material you believe should be removed. Include enough information to identify the material. Requests are reviewed individually; deletion may not be possible for records already lawfully published or retained for necessary source integrity or legal purposes.
This notice will be updated if the site's collection methods, forms, analytics, or third-party services materially change.
