Corrections and Revision History

How factual errors are corrected, how major publication changes are tracked, and what the Calaveras archive has corrected so far.

Accuracy includes a visible correction process. Substantive errors should be fixed in the affected page—not merely addressed in a separate note—and important corrections should be recorded so readers can understand what changed.

What counts as a correction?

A correction is warranted when a published factual statement, date, number, attribution, status, source link, or material characterization is inaccurate or unsupported. Examples include calling a request pending after a documented final response or treating a proposal as an adopted policy.

Minor spelling, spacing, accessibility, style, and non-substantive layout changes are ordinarily technical revisions rather than factual corrections, unless they change meaning or create a misleading impression.

How a correction is reviewed and recorded

  1. Identify the claim. Record the URL, exact passage, affected record or dataset, and the proposed correction.
  2. Examine the evidence. Compare the cited primary record, later productions, and any conflicting material. A requester's assertion alone is not automatically treated as proof.
  3. Update the affected material. Correct the page, relevant timeline, charts, captions, document descriptors, and linked search/index entries as needed.
  4. Record material changes. State the date, what changed, why it changed, the source basis, and the affected pages. Preserve a superseded version when practical and meaningful.
  5. Retain unanswered questions. If a dispute cannot be resolved, label the matter as unresolved rather than silently picking a side.

Current correction log

No substantive Calaveras corrections logged yet

The Calaveras archive has not yet published investigative collections or record-based findings. This is an intentionally empty log; entries will be added as substantive corrections occur.

Machine-readable corrections/revisions log: revisions.json (currently an empty array).

Website releases are not factual corrections

Layout changes, new resource-directory contacts, logos, search changes, and technical fixes are recorded in the source bundle's CHANGELOG.md. A site release is not evidence of an error in a public record. Material public-facing releases may also be described on the Updates page.

Report an error or request review

Use the Contact form and include the page URL, the statement at issue, what appears incorrect, and the supporting source or official record. The project may seek clarification before revising an unresolved claim. Requests to remove personal information are reviewed under the Privacy Notice and Redactions policy.
